ES Park is a “more or less” baroque serif typeface designed by Xavier Erni (Neo Neo) and developed by Lisa Schultz. Its curves are inspired by the shapes of two famous predecessors: Clarendon and American Typewriter. Due to its design features and thick, block-like serifs, it can be classified as a Slab Serif (also known as Mechanistic, Antique, or Egyptian). However, its serifs are designed slightly narrower than those of other slabs. The thinner weights are drawn with less contrast than the heavier ones, making it highly legible at smaller sizes while remaining very impactful in bolder texts. It is perfectly suited to grabbing the reader’s attention.
In its default version, the terminals are designed as mini-serifs, adding a subtle ornamental aesthetic to the typeface. For a more traditional look with slab serif curves, you can enable Stylistic Set 1 (Round terminals) in the OpenType features, resulting in letters that appear softer and more organic. The ES Park family offers 8 weights, ranging from Thin to Extra Bold, each with a corresponding italic. A variable font file is also available upon request after purchasing the complete family. With its strong identity and excellent legibility on both screen and paper, ES Park is the perfect tool for creating distinctive branding as well as typesetting a literary work.
